From Coffee to Connection: How Events Foster Fellowship

Greetings from the Events Team!

Anyone that knows me well knows that my early working life was spent in the restaurant business. Food is my love language so having the opportunity to put together meals for many is my own personal joy. Helping me in this endeavor is a small but mighty team of workers who come early, stay late, and work hard to ensure that things run smoothly. While there are not a lot of specific opportunities for discipleship in the course of these events, I have had the pleasure of observing a few deep and meaningful conversations over a sink of dishes. Just last month I saw two team members in deep conversation as they finished up the dishes, ending with a quick prayer and a long hug. It's encouraging to see the members of our church grow closer as they serve. In addition, I am  always impressed by, and grateful for, the willingness of the congregation to break down tables and chairs at the end of every event. Oak Hill's participation rate is exceptional, so true to our name, we all have the pleasure of watching multiple generations engage in genuine Christian fellowship. 

As we approach our busy season, a few prayer requests come to mind. First, please pray that more people will be encouraged to join our small team. Between the coffee service on Sunday, membership classes, and ad hoc events, it can be challenging to cover our needs. Many hands make light work so having a few more hands would be helpful. I particularly need a few strong men (young or old) to move and set up tables and chairs. Second, please pray that each event results sharing in spiritual blessings, mutual support and an active partnership in the faith. In other words, pray that each event encourages true fellowship.  Finally, please pray for wisdom for David and me as we consider and plan each event. It's easy to get caught up in the practical and lose sight of our real purpose. Your prayers will most certainly help.
