What Are We “Full Sending” Ourselves Into?

Another year, another winter retreat has come and gone for the students of Oak Hill. The theme for this year’s retreat was “Full Send,” a once-trendy phrase used to describe someone who goes all in on something without hesitation. The sessions focused on select passages highlighting moments from the life of the disciple Peter. Peter was certainly a “full send” kind of personality—both for good and for wrong. Without hesitation, he stepped out of the boat to walk on water toward Christ. When asked, he quickly declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” He sprinted to the tomb the moment he heard of the resurrection. However, there were also times when this “full send” characteristic was misplaced, such as when he impulsively swung a sword at the high priest’s servant without thinking.
We can be like Peter as well. When we are, what are we “full sending” ourselves into? Is it Christ or something else? What do we prioritize and devote ourselves to completely?
If you were there this past Sunday, you heard Parker’s post-retreat testimony about how he recognized that both his time on his phone and his desire for attention were areas in which he was wrongly going “full send.” He realized that both his time and his thoughts should be devoted to Christ. This does not mean that time on a phone or making friends laugh is wrong. Rather, when Christ is the central priority of our lives—when He is the object of our “full send”—those other things fall into their proper place and are used in the right way.
Can you identify something in your life that you are going “full send” on, whether good or bad, that may be taking the place of being fully devoted to Christ?
Please pray for our students as they seek to identify these things in their lives, and that they would be fully committed in all they do for God and for His glory.
